The Anatomy of the Connection
This cable features a 5.5mm x 2.1mm DC barrel connection (Male on one end, Female on the other). This is specifically designed to sit between your Cigarette Lighter Power Plug and your LED Controller.
- Male End: Plugs into your LED strip controller.
- Female End: Receives the plug from your 12V cigarette lighter lead or battery pack.
Why 2 Meters is the "Sweet Spot"
In the world of 12V power, cable length matters due to Voltage Drop.
- Efficiency: When electricity travels through a thin wire over a long distance, it loses "pressure" (Voltage). A 2-meter extension is short enough that it won't cause your "Dream Chasing" LEDs to flicker or change colour due to power loss.
- Cable Management: Combined with the 3-meter Cigarette Lighter Plug, you now have a total of 5 meters of lead wire plus your 5 meters of lights. This allows you to run lights to the very top of a tall flagpole or across the far side of a large awning while keeping the power source tucked away safely.
Practical Use Cases
- The High-Reach Flagpole: If you are mounting your Solar Firework or LED strip to a 6-meter pole, the battery/plug usually won't reach the ground. This extension ensures your controls stay at eye level.
- Tent Internal Wiring: You can keep your 12V battery outside in a dry box and run this extension through a small cable port into the tent to power your lights without bringing the heavy battery inside.
- Vehicle Canopy: Perfect for running power from the dashboard of a car/truck all the way back to the tailgate area.
Best Practices for Outdoor Use
Weatherproofing the Connection: While the LED strip is IP67, the "junction" where this extension plugs into your lead is a potential entry point for moisture.
Pro-Tip: Wrap the connection point (where the two DC jacks meet) with a small piece of electrical tape or a "connection protector" sleeve to prevent short-circuits from dew or rain.
- Strain Relief: Avoid letting the weight of the extension lead hang off the LED strip. Use one of your Velcro Straps to secure the connection point to a solid structure like a pole or beam.
